Selection and Interview Process at TCS

The interview process at TCS typically comprises three to four rounds, starting with a Phone screening or aptitude assessment, then technical round, proceeding to a HR interview for applicable roles.

1. Application & Eligibility: Candidates generally apply for the TCS trainee role through the TCS NextStep portal, their campus placement cell during on-campus recruitment drives, or through off-campus job fairs and walk-in opportunities. To be eligible, applicants are usually required to meet minimum academic criteria, typically around 60% marks or a 6.0 CGPA, and should not have significant academic gaps or active backlogs.

2. Online Assessment: The TCS National Qualifier Test (NQT), also known as the online assessment, is usually the first and most important screening stage for trainee roles. This test evaluates candidates on key skill areas such as numerical ability, verbal ability, logical reasoning, programming logic, and basic coding to assess their problem-solving and analytical capabilities.

3.HR Interview: The HR interview is the final round of the TCS trainee selection process and focuses on evaluating the candidate’s motivation and overall fit with the organization. During this stage, candidates are asked basic HR questions related to their strengths and weaknesses, willingness to relocate, career goals, and expectations, as well as questions to clarify their personal and academic background.

4. Technical Interview: This round primarily focuses on programming fundamentals, data structures and algorithms, projects mentioned on the resume, and proficiency in languages such as C, C++, Java, or Python. Candidates may also be asked to solve basic problems or write simple code during the interview.

5.Offer / Onboarding: If candidates are selected, they receive an official offer letter that includes details about the role, salary, and work location. After accepting the offer, TCS conducts background verification followed by the completion of joining formalities. It is important to note that the release of offer letters and the onboarding process may take several weeks or even months after the interview, as these steps depend on internal timelines and batch planning.
