Selection and Interview Process at Natwest Group

The interview process at Natwest Group typically comprises three to four rounds, starting with a Phone screening or aptitude assessment, then technical round, proceeding to a HR interview for applicable roles.

1. Application & Initial Screening: Once submitted, your resume is reviewed by a recruiter who shortlists candidates based on several key factors, including your technical skills such as proficiency in Java, Spring, and SQL along with the quality and relevance of your project experience. Having exposure to the banking or financial domain can also provide an added advantage during this screening stage.

2. Online Assessment: The online assessment typically consists of multiple sections designed to evaluate both technical and analytical skills. This may include a timed aptitude and reasoning test, SQL multiple-choice questions or basic database-related problems, and one or two coding questions that are generally LeetCode-style with easy to medium difficulty. In some cases, candidates may also be required to complete a recorded video interview, where they respond to predefined questions.

3. Behavioral / Motivational Interview: This interview focuses on NatWest’s core behaviours, such as customer focus, raising the bar, and owning impact. You can expect competency-based (CPC) questions structured around the STAR method (Situation, Task, Action, Result).

4. Technical Interview: In the first round, candidates are assessed on core data structures and algorithms, including topics such as arrays, stacks, and queues. Interviewers often ask practical coding questions to evaluate problem-solving ability for example, implementing a queue using stacks along with checking understanding of basic concepts.

5. Managerial / Advanced Tech: This round focuses on understanding your past work experience and the decisions you made in different scenarios, including how you approached challenges and evaluated trade-offs in system design. It also assesses your ability to collaborate effectively within a team, communicate ideas clearly, and contribute to a positive working environment.
