Selection and Interview Process at Amazon
The interview process at Amazon typically comprises three to four rounds, starting with a Phone screening or aptitude assessment, then technical round, proceeding to a HR interview for applicable roles.
1. Application & Resume Screening: You submit your resume and application for the role. Recruiters review your background to assess your technical skills, experience, and overall fit. Since many candidates are filtered out at this stage, it’s important to tailor your resume to emphasize algorithms, data structures, relevant projects, internships, and measurable impact.
2. Online Assessment (OA): The Online Assessment is typically the first technical evaluation, especially for university graduates and early-career candidates. It usually includes two coding problems focused on data structures and algorithms (medium to hard difficulty), work simulation or logical reasoning questions and occasionally, a Leadership Principles–based questionnaire.
3. Phone / Video Technical Screen: During these interviews, you can expect to solve data structures and algorithms problems through live coding on a shared editor such as Amazon Chime or a similar platform. In addition to technical questions, interviewers may ask a few behavioral questions aligned with Amazon’s Leadership Principles. Clearly explaining your thought process while solving problems is essential, as interviewers place strong emphasis on your approach and reasoning, not just the final solution.
4. Onsite Interview Loop: This stage typically consists of four to six interviews, either completed in a single day or spread across multiple days, with each session lasting approximately 45–60 minutes. The loop includes multiple coding rounds focused on in-depth data structures and algorithms problems of medium to hard difficulty, where candidates are expected to optimize their solutions and clearly explain time and space complexity .
