Selection and Interview Process at Altera
The interview process at Altera typically comprises three to four rounds, starting with a Phone screening or aptitude assessment, then technical round, proceeding to a HR interview for applicable roles.
1. Application / Resume shortlisting: Candidates apply for the Associate Systems Engineer role through the company’s career portal, LinkedIn, or campus recruitment drives. The HR team then reviews the applications and shortlists candidates based on factors such as their educational background (usually in Computer Science, IT, or a related field), basic technical skills, communication abilities, and any relevant projects or internship experience they have completed.
2. Online Assessment / Written Test: This test usually evaluates different areas such as aptitude, including quantitative ability and logical reasoning, along with basic programming or technical multiple-choice questions. In some cases, the assessment may also include fundamental SQL or operating system concepts. Typical questions might ask candidates to determine the output of a simple program, explain networking basics like IP and DNS, or differentiate between operating system concepts such as processes and threads.
3. Technical Interview: This stage focuses on a candidate’s fundamental knowledge and project experience. Interviewers commonly ask questions related to system and infrastructure topics such as Windows Server basics, Active Directory, virtualization, and cloud fundamentals, especially Microsoft Azure. They also assess understanding of technical concepts, including networking basics like DNS, DHCP, and TCP/IP, along with core operating system concepts.
4. Managerial / HR Interview: During this round, interviewers ask general and behavioral questions to understand the candidate’s personality and work approach. Common questions include asking the candidate to introduce themselves, explain why they want to join Altera, confirm their willingness to work in 24/7 rotational shifts, and describe any challenging situations they faced during a project and how they handled them.
