Selection and Interview Process at Sony
The interview process at Sony typically comprises three rounds, starting with a technical assessment, One-on-One round, proceeding to a Managerial or HR interview for applicable roles.
1. Online Assessment: Shortlisted candidates may first complete an online assessment covering quantitative aptitude, logical reasoning, statistics, probability, Python programming, SQL, and basic data science concepts. Some roles may also include coding or data-analysis questions involving NumPy, pandas, and data manipulation.
2. Technical Interview: The technical round focuses on your understanding of Python, SQL, statistics, probability, machine learning, and data structures. Interviewers may ask you to explain concepts such as regression, classification, overfitting, feature engineering, model evaluation, and cross-validation. You may also be given SQL queries, Python coding problems, or a practical data-analysis problem to solve.
3. Data Science / Project Discussion: Candidates may be asked to explain their academic projects, internships, machine-learning projects, or data-analysis work in detail. Questions can cover the dataset you used, preprocessing, feature selection, model choice, evaluation metrics, challenges faced, and how you interpreted the results. Be prepared to explain your projects clearly rather than simply describing the tools you used.
4. HR / Behavioral Interview: The final round generally evaluates communication, teamwork, problem-solving ability, motivation, and interest in Sony. Common questions include “Tell me about yourself,” “Why do you want to intern at Sony?”, “Why data science?”, “Describe a challenging project you worked on,” “How do you handle difficult problems?”, and questions about your career goals, availability, and willingness to work with a team.
Basic Interview Questions
- Can you tell me about yourself?
- What are your strengths and weaknesses?
- What are your short-term and long-term career goals?
- How do you handle pressure or stress at work
- What motivates you to perform well?
- Why do you want to work for our company?
- Why should we hire you?
