Selection and Interview Process at Altera
The interview process at Altera typically comprises three to four rounds, starting with a Phone screening or aptitude assessment, then technical round, proceeding to a HR interview for applicable roles.
1. Application / Resume shortlisting: Recruiters mainly evaluate candidates based on their testing skills, internship experience, academic or real-time projects, and understanding of manual testing concepts. They also look for basic knowledge of SQL and Selenium if these skills are mentioned in the resume. Interviewers often ask detailed questions related to the technologies, tools, and projects listed, so candidates are expected to be confident and clear about everything included in their resume.
2. Technical Interview: In this round, interviewers mainly focus on a candidate’s understanding of software testing fundamentals and practical QA knowledge. Common topics include Manual Testing concepts, Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC), Software Testing Life Cycle (STLC), and the Defect Life Cycle. Candidates are also frequently asked to explain the differences between Smoke and Sanity Testing, Regression and Retesting, as well as Severity and Priority.
3. Managerial Interview: Focuses on evaluating a candidate’s problem-solving ability, communication skills, and practical approach to quality assurance. Interviewers may ask candidates to explain their current or final-year project in detail and discuss their role and contributions. They also present real-world testing scenarios, such as how to test an ATM system or how to respond if a developer rejects a reported bug.
4. HR Round: Generally a simple discussion focused on understanding the candidate’s availability, expectations, and flexibility. Recruiters typically ask about salary expectations, notice period, willingness to work in different shifts, and openness to relocation if required. This round also helps assess the candidate’s communication skills, professionalism, and overall suitability for the organization.
