Selection and Interview Process at SAP
The interview process at SAP typically comprises three to four rounds, starting with a Phone screening or aptitude assessment, then technical round, proceeding to a HR interview for applicable roles.
1. Application and Screening: Candidates typically apply through the company’s careers portal or via referrals, after which recruiters evaluate their profiles for a basic understanding of product thinking, an analytical or technical background such as engineering, business, or IT, and some familiarity with enterprise software, SaaS, or ERP concepts.
2. Recruiter / HR Screening: Candidates who pass this stage move on to a recruiter or HR screening round, usually lasting 30–45 minutes, which focuses on assessing cultural fit and foundational knowledge. During this conversation, applicants are commonly asked questions like why they want to join SAP, what they know about the company’s products, and to discuss a product they like or dislike, along with their reasoning.
3. Hiring Manager Interview: This round typically explores the candidate’s understanding of the product lifecycle, including how products are developed, launched, and improved over time. The discussion often includes deep dives into prior projects or internships to assess practical experience, as well as questions around stakeholder management to understand how effectively the candidate can collaborate with cross-functional teams such as engineering, design, and business stakeholders.
4. Technical Round: Candidates on the technical track are typically assessed on their understanding of APIs, databases, and basic system design concepts, while those on the functional track are evaluated on their knowledge of business processes such as finance, human resources, or supply chain operations. During this round, candidates may be asked to demonstrate SQL fundamentals or interpret data, as well as explain common ERP workflows.
